Stack Robber

I think one of the best things in our cabin is a Stack robber. It attaches to the stove pipe and has tubs that are perpendicular to the stove pipe. On the back of the stack robber there is a fan that is 12V and it blows air through the tubs. The tubs heat up from the exhaust from the wood stove, and when you have hot tubs and air blowing throw them it makes continuous moving hot air through out the cabin. This way heats the cabin faster then letting the heat slowly dissipate by just a stove producing heat.

My power setup continued

During winter, it is really nice to go to the cabin and its dark out, you walk in the cabin and turn the light on (12V light). We have three lights downstairs and two upstairs, and one LED light for reading. We use to only have a VHF radio for communication. Then one winter i asked my "why don't we put in some lights so we don't have to turn on the propane out side and purge the lines for the propane lights. So, we put in some lights and it is very handy to walk into the cabin with an arm lode of gear and pull a string and then theirs light; very handy so you can put your gear away and start working on the fire for the wood stove.

My power setup

At my dads cabin at Lake Louise, Alaska, we have four Arco 75 solar panels. They produce 75 Watts of power and have a 20 year warranty on them. We have been using them for about 12 years now and they still work great. we have gone through about 6 sets of battery's. The battery's (two car battery's wired in series) are always charging, and durring summer we have a radio playing to help with bear deturent so they dont tear the place up when we are away. (more to come later)
